The Oxford varsity boys soccer team is off to a good start this season, standing tall with an overall record of 6-2 and a Flint Metro League record of 2-0.
Last Wednesday, the Wildcats dominated Holly 6-2 at home. Captain Zac Wasylyna had three goals and one assist, while Francesco Paese had two goals and one assist. Captain Erik Anderson also had one goal that evening.
Although the team’s Saturday game against Romeo was cancelled due to inclement weather, the boys didn’t skip a beat at Monday’s game against Clio.
Coach John Thaler said the team did get off to a slow start in the first half, but captains Mark Jones and Erik Anderson each got one goal and Paese another.
Clio was only given the opportunity to score one goal of the game during the first half.
In the second half, Wasylyna, David Hayward, David Hurrish, Doug Kiracofe and Paese added the final five goals to finish the game, beating Clio 8-1.
‘Oxford’s defense held strong and figured out Clio’s strategy early on to keep them out of the goal area,? Coach Thaler said. ‘Oxford had many scoring opportunities throughout the night, which saw numerous players get some great chances to earn a goal.?
The Wildcats will travel to Davison Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
