Wildcat runners return home after a victorious week

Oxford High School’s cross country teams are continuing to have a great season – both the men and ladies recently returned as winners after traveling to Holly for a tri-meet against the Broncos and Lapeer West on Sept. 17.
The Lady Cats toppled West in overall placing, but lost the top spots to Holly. Placing in the top five for Oxford were Lauren Cribb in third with 23:55 and Jacque Magdalino in fourth with 24:31. Placing in the top five on the Oxford team were Cribb in first, Magdalino in second, Katie Carroll in third with 26:04, Shannon Walker in fourth with 26:18 and Deanne Kujawa in fifth with 26:38.
“We’re keeping a real positive attitude,” said Team Captain Lauren Cribb.
The Oxford men sped past both Holly and West to claim the top four spots overall. Placing for the Wildcats were Donnie Richmond in first with 17:03, Kevin Brown in second with 17:37, Kenny White in third with 17:52 and Tim Rowland in fourth with 18:09. Placing fifth within the Oxford team and seventh overall was German Guerrero with 18:37. Adam Richmond, with 18:57, came in sixth within the Oxford team and ninth overall.
The Oxford teams then took off again on Sept. 20 at the DCC Invitational. The Lady Cats came in 7th of 14 teams. Medal winners included Lauren Cribb in 19th and Jacque Magdalino in 29th.
The Wildcat gentlemen led the 15-school invite by taking first place with 31 points. Medal winners included Donnie Richmond in first, Kevin Brown in fifth, Kenny White in sixth, Tim Rowland in ninth, German Guerrero in 10th, Adam Richmond in 15th and Todd Davidson in 18th.
The Wildcat runners are away at Brandon today (Wednesday). To prepare for the meet, Oxford has been training hard with up to 10 mile runs that include around 10 hills, and mile repeats.
“We all love mile repeats,” jokes Team Captain Donnie Richmond. “Coach gets in his car and goes, and we just follow him.”
Oxford will be running at home again on October 1 against Lapeer East. The Cats will take off in Seymour Lake Park around 4:30 p.m.
