Students from one of Oakview Middle School seventh grade teams participated in a walk-a-thon to benefit Heifer International last week.
According to teacher April Dobbs, each class in the team came up with some ideas for ways they could help others, and after some voting, the group decided to do the walk-a-thon.
With 95 students participating in the walk that lasted from noon to 5 p.m., Dobbs said that the students walked over 422 miles and raised over $2,500.
Dobbs added that they set a minimum goal of $1,000 to raise.
‘We more than doubled that,? she said.
Heijer International is an organization that facilitates the purchase and sending of live animals to needy families. These animals, such as goats, help produce both food and revenue for the family.
