The Dragon volleyballers came away from weekend tournament in North Branch without a trophy but heads held high with a runner-up finish.
The team beat the state defending champion North Branch in three sets, but lost to Midland in the finals.
Injuries were a problem for the beleaguered Dragons, as was a lack of energy following the North Branch game.
‘We used a lot of energy against North Branch,? said Head Coach Ross Talbot. ‘Junior left side Tess Marshall was out on an injury but fortunately sophomore Hannah Murdock recovered well enough to play after a sprained ankle from Thursday.
‘Injuries have become a problem for us, but we have some kids that can come in and step in to help out. We’re lucky because other teams have starting players go down and they might be in trouble, but we have people that can be effective in filling that position. ‘We still beat North Branch which is the number one team in class B.?
Senior Emilie Kipp is also currently injured.
The team will try to make a post season run in Romeo on November 1 against Oxford at 5 p.m.
Talbot is confident his team can defeat Oxford and did so earlier in the season in three sets. For now, he wants to work on staying healthy, and to that end will slow down in practice over the next few weeks.
