Brandon Twp – Ortonville will not go it alone when the time comes to work for a new Main Street.
It’s a community project and the township was proud to receive the twin Main Street Certificate of Recognition, presented by Village Manager Paul Zelenak on Oct. 11.
On behalf of the township, Supervisor Ron Lapp accepted the certificate from the village telling Zelenak the board was delighted.
‘Main Street is a huge accomplishment for the village. It’s an exciting opportunity for the renaissance of the village,? Lapp said.
‘My hat is off to both the village council and Zelenak, it shows what tenacity will do and we will help whatever and wherever we can.?
‘We could not have been recognized as a Main Street Community without the support of the township board,? Zelenak told the board as he presented a framed Main Street certificate.
Especially noted by Zelenak was Tom Stowell, trustee and president for the Ortonville Historical Society, for his help in ? pulling? the extensive application packet together for presentation to the Oakland Main Street economic development program board.
Stowell said there were a number of reasons he felt Ortonville should have gotten the recognition but felt it was Zelenak’s impassioned plea for assistance to recognize and revitalize the smallest village yet to apply for the designation.
Out of eight Oakland County villages awarded the Main Street Community awards, Ortonville is the smallest to receive the recognition.
Of the 2004 Main Street applications, Ortonville and Oxford were the only two villages awarded the designation.
