The Village Council has approved the purchase and donation of two buoys to the Lake Orion Lake Association.
Every year, LOLA puts out sixteen buoys in Lake Orion to promote boating safety, swimming safety and reduce shoreline erosion, said Lake Orion Lake Association President Jerry Richards.
According to Richards, nine of these buoys are placed in village waters, with the other seven in township waters.
Joseph Belanger, director of the Lake Association, said that this year LOLA would like to replace six of the buoys that have been severely damaged.
The buoys cost approximately $250 each to replace.
According to Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel, this is only the second time that the Lake Orion Lake Association has asked for a donation like this. The last time was in 2001 for $250 (the price of a single buoy.)
This time, LOLA is asking for donations for two buoys, and Richards said that the two buoys in question will be placed in village waters. They are looking to place them on either side of Bellevue Bridge.
According to Belanger, LOLA will also asking the Township to fund replacement buoys and LOLA will replace the remaining buoys from their own treasury.
For individuals that are interested in donating to the Lake Orion Lake Association, Richards said that you can contact him at (248)693-6805.
