Ortonville – Kevin Booms is motivated to start working in Ortonville, because for the past 10 years he has been driving all over the state to go to work.
As of Monday, Dec. 1, Booms is the new Department of Public Works Laborer I, hired by the Village of Ortonville.
“I’m not going to know how to act being so close to home,” Booms said with a grin. “It’s going to be nice to just jump in the car and be here.”
After spending years as an outside contractor, Booms is undaunted by the amount of time he will be spending outdoors this winter, in his new role as a DPW Laborer.
“I’m used to working outside all winter,” said Booms. “I’m also looking forward to working with the crew (DPW Supervisor Shane Eliassen and Dan Hackman), they seem to be like nice guys.”
Booms was hired to fill the DPW spot left by Shane Eliassen when he was promoted to supervior of the department.
Working as a part of the DPW team for more than three years, Eliassen said he is also looking forward to the addition of someone hard- working who is interested in working as a team with himself and Dan Hackman.
“I am looking forward to running the DPW as a team—not as an individual,” said the DPW Supervisor.
Booms and his wife Kathleen moved to Brandon from Warren 10 years ago because he wanted to live in the country.
“This town is a nice place to raise kids,” said the father of two boys, ages 15 and 19.
