The Village Council voted 6-1 to distribute 50-percent of this year’s profits from firework viewing at Green’s Park to the Lake Orion Fireworks Association. The other 50-percent will go into the parks and recreation fund.
Councilman Douglas Dendel was the one dissenting vote, noting that he would be more interested in using the profits to kick-off the donations for next year’s fireworks.
Several of the other council members disagreed, saying they would rather see the association use the profits from this year’s show to pay off any debts related to it.
In addition to the council awarding profits from this year, they also developed a policy, contingent upon Green’s Park being chosen as a viewing site, to continue to award the 50-50 split in future years.
This year, after subtracting village expenses, profits totaled $849, with a check for $424.50 being cut for the Lake Orion Fireworks Association.
