The Oxford varsity boys and girls bowling teams were all about victory on Saturday, as they took on Walled Lake Central on their own turf at Collier Lanes for the Northern Lakes Conference.
The boys team defeated Walled Lake 26-, which lead to a ‘roll-off,? a bowling phrase for a play-off, against Clarkston.
Clarkston got the early upper hand when they fired four strikes to start off the first game, and won both matches.
Junior Tyler Heichel had the high game and series of the year with a 266 and 455. Senior A.J. McLarty had high games of 246 and 192 for a 438 series, while both senior Kevin Compau and Brendan Wheeler had 202 games.
The boys are now 6-2 in the NLC.
The JV boys team saw a 16-14 win against Clarkston and is now 7-1 in the NLC. Freshman Michael Maygar had a 205 game, sophomore Brandon Burgess had a 193, while junior Trent Heichel bowled very well with a 215 and 186 game.
The varsity girls also defeated Walled Lake Central 24-6 on Saturday for their first win of the season. They are now 1-7 in the NLC. Lead by senior Amanda Tucker’s 342 game series and freshman Sarah Decker’s 340 series, the girls made coach J.R. Lafnear proud.
‘We’ve been a very competitive team right from the start,? he said.
The NLC post-season tournament for the varsity teams will be at Cherry Hills Lanes North in Clarkston Feb. 17.
