It was a cool, damp and windy Monday on the golf course as Lake Orion’s varsity boys’ golf team played in the OLCC invitational at Orchard Lake.
Despite the elements, the Dragons posted their best scores of the season with a total team score of 316.
The team was led by T.J. Hirschfield 76, Drew Coble 79, Zach Brydges 79 and Andrew Remer 82.
The Dragons’ score placed them in the top 10 of the 24 teams competing. They will play next at Twin Lakes on Friday in preparation for the state district tournament at the end of the month.
The boys’ leading scorer this season has been freshman Drew Coble, who earned his best round score in an Ohio tournament with a 76.
“Freshman Andrew Remer has also been scoring in the top five and will be crucial to this young team growing and competing in the future,” Coach Monty Gallaher said.
Other players include sophomores Hirschfield, Pierce Burke; juniors Dillon McCallum, Taylor McCarty; and seniors Bridges, Maximo Jones, Danny Gagen and Matt Aiello.
The important season really starts May 18, Gallaher said, with the Oakland County Championship at Pontiac CC.
The next week will see the beginning of district playoffs.
The district tournament will be at the Dragon’s home turf at Boulder Pointe Golf Club in Oxford on June 1.
