Although records were broken by the Oxford Varsity girl’s bowling team this past weekend, a victory wasn’t to be had.
Oxford ended their match against Walled Lake Central with a 15-15 tie, but lost by a mere six pins when their baker and head-up match scores were tallied. The girls are now 0-5.
Sophomore Kelly Cartner set the new high school girls? high bowling score with a 222 game. Junior Liz Laframboise set her new personal best with a 211 game.
The team also set a new Oxford High School record in head-up matches with a total of 895.
The Oxford girl bowlers won their first baker game 194-181, lost the second 189-191.
In head-up play, junior Ashlee High had a 195 game and sophomore Sarah Decker won her match with a 155 game.
The Varsity boys also took on Walled Lake Central, who’s ranked 10th in the state, but lost the match 3-27. The boys record is now 1-4.
At one point during the match, they were down 10-0.
‘We just can’t get a break in the baker games,? Coach J.R. Lafnear said. ‘Even though we had some nice scores, being down 10-0 is very difficult to overcome.?
The highlight of the boy’s match was junior James Roberts? win over the Northern Lakes Conference average and point leader, Walled Lake’s Eric Christiensen, 230-203.
Other high games this week were shot by senior Ben Griffs (234), senior Tyler Heichel (242) and junior Steven Lafnear (203).
This Saturday, both teams will bowl in the Oakland County Tournament. Time is still to be determined.
