The school district’s newly renovated administration building opened for business Wednesday, just in time for the school board’s first meeting of the new year.
The building, at 315 N. Lapeer St. in downtown Lake Orion, recently underwent a $1 million facelift, including an expanded parking area, reconfigured entranceway, sidewalks, a conference room, new paint and carpeting, updated technology and other amenities.
During the construction and renovation period, school administrators worked from the district’s Community Education Resource Building on Scripps Road.
School’s Supt. Christine Lehman said the updated facility will better serve school administrators and community members using the building.
‘We’re very excited to be back in familiar surroundings,? Lehman said. ‘It’s great to move into a renovated building, and it’s amazing what has been accomplished in a relatively short time.
‘We’re also looking forward to using the new technology to better communicate with the community,? she said, alluding to new large television screens and videotaping capabilities at board meetings.
Board vice president Bob Gritzinger, who filled in Wednesday for board President Leeann Bartley, was equally impressed with the look of the facility.
‘We’ve been able to add needed space and parking — and without overspending,? said Gritzinger. ‘Everything was kept pretty tight. This has been a really great project, while keeping an eye on the money spent.?
