Brandon Twp.- Former library director JoAnn Gavey accepted a severance package from the library board on April 24 that included $15,000 and full health benefits through June 30.
The package is ‘in recognition of the good things she did for the library and the community,? said library board president Margaret Lee.
Gavey, director of the township library for more than 11 years, was terminated March 23 after a two-week long investigation into complaints that included the director’s harassment of employees. Other areas of concern were Gavey’s handling of policies and finances.
The $15,000 in the severance package represents Gavey’s wages from the date of termination to June 30.
‘It’s a done deal and we’re working toward the future,? said Lee.
Lee and library board members Frank Genovese and Royann Hassinger are the members of a search committee looking for a new director.
Lee says the committee is going ahead in a fiscally conservative fashion for the library, which has a tight budget.
‘We hope to hire a director by September, to coincide with school and all the issues that entails,? she said, adding that things are going well at the library under interim director Paula Gauthier.
