Atlas Twp. – An Atlas Township woman and an Otisville man were injured in an M-15 collision when roads turned slippery Tuesday morning.
A northbound 1999 Ford Taurus station wagon, driven by a 38-year-old Atlas Township woman, crossed the center line into the southbound lane just south of Maple Road about 7:30 a.m. Jan. 19, said Lt. Russ Sorenson, of the Genesee County Sheriff Department traffic division.
The station wagon struck a 1989 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by a 45-year-old Otisville man in a near head-on collision.
The man was extricated from the pickup using the Jaws of Life by the Atlas Township Fire Department. With an apparent head injury, he was transported to Hurley Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition, Sorenson said.
The woman was transported to Genesys Health Park, where she was listed in serious condition with lower-body injuries.
With no initial witnesses, it was difficult to reconstruct the accident since neither driver could give a report. Sheriff’s department findings were confirmed by the report of medical personnel later given by the driver of the station wagon.
Police also plan to interview a witness who emerged later.
The accident originally was reported to have occurred near Bristol Road in Davison Township, which elicited a response from a City of Davison officer, said Detective Sgt. Joe Parks, commander of the Atlas Township sheriff’s precinct.
‘The Davison City officer assisting was smart enough to continue south on M-15 and come up on it,? Parks said.
Road conditions were snowy and slippery Tuesday morning, said Sorenson.
