The Goodrich Village Council will have a new look.
Newcomers Doug McAbee gained 383 votes (23 percent) and Phil Jackson garnered 336 votes (20 percent), ousting incumbent council president Edmund York, 282 votes (17 percent), along with Dave Lucik, 311 votes (18 percent). Incumbent council member Richard Horton received 324 votes (19 percent), retaining his seat.
‘Now the work begins,? said McAbee, a retired Goodrich Schools custodian. ‘I’m excited to be in office. The next task will be to bring all Goodrich together. There’s a lot of work ahead of us.?
McAbee said he will propose a study by a company specializing in staffing levels and efficiency.
‘We want to take a look at the DPW and the office staff. Our campaign took aim to reduce the size of the government, reduce the cost of government, along with making it more efficient.?
Jackson, 73, said he’s confident that all council members have the same interests at heart.
‘The first task will be to make sure there’s good ideas in place,? he said. ‘We’re not going to rush into changes,, it’s too easy to make mistakes. Rather, we hope to ease into the changes. I’m pleased to be elected to the council and there’s plenty to do financially and in general in Goodrich.?
The voter turnout in Atlas Township topped 44 percent, with 2,589 of 5,951 voters casting ballots. Similarly, voter turnout in the Village of Goodrich was about 43 percent.
About 40 percent of voters turned out in Genesee County.
