The Lake Orion girls track team scored 85 points, and the boys team posted 62 points, as both took second place at the May 19 regional at Holly.
Individual athletes and relay teams finishing in the top two automatically qualified for the state meet, June 3 at East Kentwood. Other finishers who reach a qualifying standard will also be invited.
The girls team finished behind Clarkston (151 points). Alex Hartley won both the discus and shot put events for LO.
Rachel Werner took first in the 200- meter dash, and Sara Lieblein placed second in the 3200 run. The team of Werner, Jesse Dorse, Hillary Reilly and Courtney Kimmel was second in the 1600 relay.
The boys were paced by Ben Hopkins’ win in the high jump.
The 400 relay team of J.P. Findlay, Aaron Allen, David Wurst and Craig Lamouria took second, as did Rob Shinouskis in the 3200 run (edging teammate Drew Collette by one second).
Grand Blanc scored 128 points to win the competition.
