Township, sheriff to offer vehicle safety inspections

Atlas Twp. – Commercial drivers know that a ticket for not being in compliance with motor vehicle laws is costly and time-consuming.
To help rectify this, the township, along with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, will partner to offer free federal vehicle safety inspections for all commercial vehicles registered in the township.
The inspections will start at 8 a.m., March 1, at Johnson & Sons Inc., 10025 S. Gale Road.
‘We offered the use of our business for the inspections because we liked the idea,? said Michael Johnson, the owner of Johnson & Sons. ‘It’s a way for our local law enforcement to work with the community. I also thought it would be a good chance to get to know other local owners in the area.?
‘This will save owners and operators time and money and at the end of the inspection all of the trucks will get a sticker and certificate for their trucks indicating their vehicles have passed a recent inspection,? he said.
Township Supervisor Paul Amman said Deputy Paul Brooks came up with the idea. He said no citations will be issued and information will be provided to the owner/operator as to what is required to bring the vehicle into compliance. ‘This will give everyone a chance to meet with the officers and ask questions regarding current regulations,? he said.
