Thank you for Unity support

Dear editor,
We would like to graciously thank our parents, students, school district and community for our third annual Unity Week at Lake Orion High School. Our week had a lot to offer for everyone in the Lake Orion Community.
On Monday, we welcomed Andy Thibodeau. Through his hilarious comedy and true-life stories, Andy delivered a message everyone can relate to.
His message was complemented by his experiences as a leader in high school and college, as a past director of a leadership camp, and his active community involvement.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed Challenge Day. Challenge Day is an AMAZING organization from California. The goal was to break down barriers within the student body and promote respect for one another through various team-building activities. Over 375 students participated in this event. In addition, we had over 75 adults that volunteered to be facilitators. For more information about Challenge Day, please visit: www.challengeday.org
Also, on Tuesday night Lake Orion High School Leadership Development Workshop hosted Mr. LO. Let’s give a big shout out to our Mr. LO 2010 Dane McGoldrick. Wednesday was a night filled with many laughs as the hypnotist came to LOHS and hypnotized about 20 of our LOHS students. These evening events brought our youth back to LOHS for some safe and fun events.
On Friday, the North Oakland Community Coalition teamed up with the Lake Orion High School for the Freshman Forum/Senior Chat. This gave freshman and seniors an opportunity to voice their concerns about the school and community.
Without the donations, contributions and volunteer hours from our local businesses and community members, Unity Week would have NOT been possible. The dream of having everyone live in a community where they feel loved and safe could not happen without valuable support.
We are in the process of planning UNITY WEEK 2011 for the week of March 21, 2011. Please contact us if you are interested in helping. We need all the help we can get.

Zac Abeel,
