LAKE ORION — Teresa Rutt is the new president of the Lake Orion Village Council.
Rutt was elected president by a 7-0 vote during the council’s regular meeting on Nov. 12. After each general election, the council holds its own reorganizational meeting to elect the council president and president pro-tem.
“I’d like to nominate Teresa Rutt for president of the village council,” Councilmember Stan Ford said. Councilmember Carl Cyrowski supported the nomination.
“I just want to thank the council for the trust they put in me in this role. It’s not something I take lightly, and do so with a little bit of trepidation,” Rutt said.
Rutt was first elected to the council in 2018. She was most recently president pro-tem under former President Jerry Narsh, who, along with former Councilmember Ken Van Portfliet, did not seek reelection in the Nov. 5 General Election.
Rutt has also been the council’s representative on the Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee during her time on council, and was a member of the committee before joining the council.
In 2021, Rutt led the charge and filed the paperwork for a $50,000 T-Mobile Hometown Grant that the village used to purchase and install a new playscape at Green’s Park.
Along with the parks committee, Rutt also was instrumental in installing a new playscape at Children’s Park, paid for by the Lake Orion DDA.
Joining the council on Nov. 12 were newly-elected members George Dandalides and Alex Comparoni, who won their seats, along with incumbents Micheal Lamb and Ford.
Ford, Dandalides and Comparoni will serve until Nov. 12, 2028 when their current terms expire. Lamb will serve until Nov. 8, 2026 when his current term expires.
In the nominations for president pro-tem, Councilmember Nancy Moshier nominated Lamb and Cyrowski nominated Ford.
Cyrwoski, Ford, Rutt, Comparoni and Dandalides voted for Ford, while Moshier and Lamb voted for Lamb, giving Ford the 5-2 victory.
