Former Bridges teachers Kyle Tecmire and Kyle Rowley can relax because they won’t have to go job hunting. Oxford Community Schools has called them back to work.
‘It’s a huge relief because never in my career as a superintendent have I laid off a teacher, so I’m glad that in one week’s time, we were able to call them back,? said Superintendent Dr. William Skilling. ‘I am really thankful about that.?
‘That was huge blessing to have those positions open up and have these two gentlemen return,? he noted.
Originally, Tecmire and Rowley, who were both at-will employees, were laid off because two other teachers with more seniority were going to take their places at Bridges. These other teachers were losing their positions due to Crossroads for Youth opening a charter school in the fall and no longer being part of the Oxford school district.
Skilling said Oxford Bridges Principal Michael Schweig decided to fully retire this year instead of coming back on a contractual basis to teach physical education at the Bridges.
‘We moved things around,? he said. ‘Kyle Rowley is going back to teaching the one PE Class that Mike Schweig was going to teach. (He’s going) back to doing his AARI (Adolescent Accelerated Reading Initiative) reading program and being an assistant Athletic Director with Mike Schweig (at Oxford Middle School)?
?(Rowley’s) an Oxford grad and we place a high importance on trying to hire Oxford graduates,? Skilling said. ‘To bring him back full-time is really special.?
Tecmire’s position opened because former OHS Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Social Studies Teacher Paul Marfia took a new teaching/coaching job on the west side of the state.
‘Because of that, the halftime social studies teacher at the middle school has been given the opportunity to go full-time at the high school, which opened up her position for Kyle to come back to,? Skilling explained.
Skilling noted that it’s not confirmed whether the middle school social studies teacher wants to stay part-time or take the full-time position at the high school.
So, Tecmire will either be a part-time teacher at the middle school or a full-time teacher at the high school, depending on what the current middle school social studies teacher decides she wants to do, he said.
