Oakland County Sheriff Deputies responded to a home invasion call on Tanview in Oxford Township after the homeowner stumbled upon an unknown man in his den during the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 15.
At approximately 12:05 a.m., the 72-year-old homeowner woke up because his dog was growling.
As he entered the hallway to investigate, he saw a dark figure hiding in the doorway of a closet located in his office, according to the sheriff’s report.
He wasn’t sure if it was a person, so he reached out toward the figure and grabbed the backpack the intruder was wearing. The intruder turned away, ran to the attached garage and out the back door, leaving the backpack behind.
The suspect fled on foot through the backyard.
An Oakland County K-9 Unit tracked the suspect for approximately 30 minutes, covering nearly a half-mile, but was unable to locate him. The homeowner told deputies it appears nothing was taken.
The backpack the suspect left behind contained a wrench, which was placed into evidence.
The suspect is listed as a white male in his late teens or early twenties, approximately 5-feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with any information about this home invasion or suspect is asked to please call the Oakland County Sheriff’s Oxford substation at (248) 969-3077.
