Brandon Twp.-On Thursday morning Oakland County Sheriff Sgt. Pete Burkett was visiting about seven area merchants to discuss signing an agreement to not sell K2 or any other synthetic designer drugs.
‘We’ve had several reports from parents of youth regarding the use of K-2,? said Burkett, commander of the Brandon Township Substation. ‘The community and parents need to understand just how dangerous this product is and to talk to their children about the dangers of using synthetic drugs.?
Oakland County officials including Executive L.Brooks Patterson and Sheriff Michael Bouchard are leading a drive to rid communities of synthetic designer drugs.
‘The stores in the township will receive decals for their windows pledging not to sell the drug,? he said.
K2 is sold as incense or potpourri. The material is a mixture of herbs and spices, sprayed with a synthetic similar to THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. Even though certain chemicals in synthetic marijuana have been made illegal in Michigan, manufacturers have found a way around the law.
