The goal for the Clarkston girls swim team this season is simple, improve on last year’s accomplishments. Last season, the Wolves were co-champs of the OAA III and qualified for the state finals in six events.
‘We want to repeat what we did last year,? Clarkston Swimming and Diving Coach Kenwyn Chock said. ‘We want to send all our relay teams to states. We would also like to send a few more individual swimmers. We also have a goal to send one of our divers to states.?
Junior Alyssa Vela returns this season. Vela qualified for the state finals in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle, taking 15th place in the 50 freestyle. Vela also was a member of the 200-meter medley team, which finished in eighth place.
‘She’s just a pure sprinter, which also helps our relays. She is anchoring all our relays,? Chock said. ‘One of our freshman swimmers is her sister Julia. She should also contribute.?
Other key swimmers include Amanda Hassett, Kaitlyn Hassett, Christine Seiple, diver Danielle Benway and Molli Simpson, who qualified for the state finals last year in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Clarkston began their season against Grand Blanc on August 29, which finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News. The Wolves? next meet is scheduled for September 7 when they host West Bloomfield.
