Swimmers seek County coming out party

With a 104-81 win at Berkley on Sept. 22, Clarkston’s swim team improved to 4-0 on the season. The unblemished record is nice, but with the Oakland County meet looming on Oct. 1, the Wolves have bigger fish to fry.
‘The County meet will be nice for our state qualifiers to see where they stand. (They) really don’t know how good they are. They have no idea where they stack up at that level,? Clarkston Coach Kenwyn Chock said.
Clarkston has qualified their 200 medley relay for states. Sophomore Alyssa Vela is qualified for states in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and freshman Molli Simpson made the state cut in the 100 breaststroke.
Looking towards the future, Chock specifically pointed to the Wolves 400 freestyle relay team, junior Kandice Keen and freshman Christine Seiple as swimmers she expects to qualify for states either at the County meet or before.
The Wolves hosted Ferndale on Sept. 27 in a dual meet which finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
Chock did not want her team to look past Ferndale because of the County meet. She felt with the Wolves swimming at home, they had an excellent chance to either break a school record or qualify more swimmers for states.
‘We are more comfortable at home. We have a fast pool,? said Chock.
Clarkston’s divers have the OAA Division III league preliminaries on Sept. 30, with the finals following on Oct. 1. Both diving events are at Dondero, which is also hosting the Oakland County Tournament on Oct. 1.
