Archimedes might have learned something from studying the relationship between the Clarkston pool water and the boys swim team as nine of the 19 members from this year’s team are seniors.
For Coach Kenwyn Chock and the Clarkston boys swim team, next season will be a return to basics.
‘Next year will definitely be a rebuilding year. I’m losing nine seniors who have been a big part of the program,? Chock said.
Without any qualifiers for the state finals the Wolves season came to an end at the OAA II league meet on Feb. 24. Clarkston finished fifth overall at the league meet and received strong performances from many of the departing seniors. West Bloomfield won the league title.
While senior Matt Inch finished eighth overall in the 500 freestyle at the OAA II meet, his time of 5:03.73 is a new school record.
Senior Josh Badgerow won a medal with a third place finish in the 100 backstroke, took fourth in the 100 butterfly and teamed with senior Ryan Kurrle, senior Mike Nelson and freshman Robert Nelson for a fourth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Kurrle also came away from the league meet with some hardware thanks to a third place finish in the 100 butterfly.
With seniors making up almost half of this year’s team, Chock is happy to return an athlete like Robert Nelson, who she described as the team’s best swimmer.
Individually, Robert Nelson’s top finish at the OAA II meet came in the 200 IM where he took sixth place.
‘The experience of swimming at OAA’s helped him,? Chock said.
With the high school season completed, Chock now turns her eyes to the next Clarkston Sea Wolves competitive swim team season, which begins May 1. The Sea Wolves compete in the RASL this summer and is open to swimmers from first to 12th grade. Those interested in joining the program can call Chock at 248-623-3799
