The Oxford Varsity girls swim team ended their regular season last Thursday against Utica Eisenhower with an overall record of 3-6 and a Flint Metro League record of 2-4.
The girls lost 131-55 against the Eagles, but saw three team records beat that night and 22 others conquor their personal bests.
In the 200-yard medley relay, freshman Allison Woonton, senior Jennifer O’Brien, sophomore Anna Verbeke and senior Tiara Tatarczuk beat their original time of 2:16.98 with a time of 2:16.64, getting them a spot in third.
Freshman Marissa Manzella broke her original time of 2:37.81 in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:34.21 for a fourth place finish.
Sophomore Caroline Kerbelis placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and beat junior Tara Nieboer’s original time of 1:22.07 with a 1:19.66.
In other events, Woonton took first place in both the 200-yard improvised swim with a 2:28.41 and the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:07.36.
Diver Taylor Roop placed second with a score of 160.60 and senior Janice Pelcer placed fourth with a score of 135.90.
Tatarczuk was able to make third place in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, and joined senior Kristi VanderMarliere, Manzella and Woonton in a third place finish for the 400-yard frestyle relay.
Oxford swimmers Manzella, junior Jennifer Smillie, senior Jessica McLean and junior Karlyn Stroope also placed second with a time of 2:05.28 in the 200-yard freestyle relay event.
The girls will compete in the Flint Metro League Tournament preliminaries on Friday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. Saturday’s diving preliminaries will be at 8:30 a.m. and the swim finals will begin at Noon. Holly will be hosting the event at Oxford’s pool.
