The swim team is back in action for the 2012/3 season and ready for the challenge ahead.
But they’ll have to work past a loss of 12 seniors.
‘We lost quite a few, but I still have some guys for the bigger meets so we’ll be ok,? said Head Coach Paul Fairman. ‘We have three guys that are really pretty good and a couple divers that are ok. We’re pretty young in the middle and we’ve had a week of practice.?
Returning are senior Zach Diener, a third year swimmer, butterflyer and freestyler who is expected to place at the state meet. Junior D.J. Seeds is a backstroker who qualified for states last year and should place again.
Sophomore Devon Nowicki is a breast stroker who also placed last year and is versatile. Junior Craig Motola is another ‘state meet kid? and breast stroker.
A fourth swimmer is sought for the freestyle events.
‘I think what we need right now is more kids stepping up,? said Fairman. ‘These are kids that maybe had no pressure on them before, but it should be fun to see them grow.?
Fairman admitted that Seaholm will be an extremely tough team that has the potential to ‘run away with it? in the OAA Red.
Their first match will be a quad meet at Waterford Kettering against Andover, Romeo and Waterford Kettering. The quad meet is at 3 p.m.
‘We’ll get to see what we got and it should be a fun meet,? said Fairman.
