Swimmers break records

The Oxford varsity girls swim team tied with Holly and beat Clio at their double-dual meet at home last Thursday.
Oxford and Holly tied 51-51 and Oxford beat Clio 80-19. Highlights of the night was when the team broke four school records.
Sophomore Allison Woonton, senior Anna Bonfiglio, freshman Jenna Mallard and freshman Anna Daves created a new school record with their 2nd and 3rd place win in the 200-medley relay.
Senior Tara Nieboer set a new record by five seconds in the 200-freestyle.
Woonton set a new school record for the 500-freestyle after her 1st place win at the meet.
Junior Caroline Kerbelis, Mallard, Daves and Woonton also set a new record with their 1st place win in the 400-freestyle relay.
Other events worth mentioning were Mallard’s 1st place win in the 50-freestyle, Bonfiglio’s 1st place win in the diving events, Woonton’s 1st place win in the 100-backstroke and Nieboer’s 1st place win in the 100-butterfly.
Junior Lindsay Krawciw took 5th place in the 100-breaststroke, while Bonfiglio placed 3rd.
The team is 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Flint Metro League.
‘The girls need to work on the little things,? said coach Jackie Boswell. ‘Dives, flips, turns, not breathing inside the flag, pushing themselves harder.?
Their next meet is the Oakland County Meet at Lake Orion High School Oct. 5-6.
Diving preliminarys will take place Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
The swim and dive finals will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
