Swimmers 2-1 in FML after Brandon meet

The Oxford varsity girls swim team’s Flint Metro League record jumped to 2-1 after last Thursday’s tri-meet against Brandon and Clio at Brandon High School.
Oxford lost to Brandon 151-115, but won against Clio 115-37.
Freshman Allison Woonton took first place in both the 200-yard swim and 500-yard freestyle with a time of 2:33.23 and 6:13.97, respectively.
Relay teams with Jessica McLean, Marissa Manzella, Tara Nieboer, Woonton, Kristi VanderMarliere, Clare Hubbard, Breanna May and Jessica Keister also took both first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:50.10 and 5:33.21, respectively.
Junior Taylor Roop took first place by a slim margin in the diving event with a score of 147.35 over a Brandon diver’s 146.85.
Brandon seemed to dominate every other event, keeping Clio no higher than third place.
Coach Peggy Verbeke said the girls will continue to practice their starts, turns and endurance for their next meet. ‘I really saw that we needed to improve on that,? she said.
The girls will take on Fenton at home at 6 p.m. Thursday.
