Clarkston’s dual meet season ended the same way it began ? with a win.
The Wolves managed to stave off Stoney Creek on Oct. 20, 97-89 to finish 9-0 on the year.
Earlier in the week, the Wolves rebuffed West Bloomfield’s best efforts, winning 110-76 on Oct. 18.
With the league meet beginning on Nov. 2-4, which Clarkston is hosting, Clarkston Coach Kenwyn Chock has tapered down the team’s daily workouts to make sure her swimmers are fresh for the close of the season.
‘They will taper, rest and get ready for the league meet,? said Chock.
For sophomore Alyssa Vela, freshman Molli Simpson and Clarkston’s 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays, the league meet is not the final appearance of the year as all are qualified for the State Finals, Nov. 18-19 at Eastern Michigan University.
Vela made state cuts in the 50 and 100 freestyle as did Simpson in the 100 breaststroke.
With the State meet in mind, Chock took several swimmers to the MISCA invitational on Oct. 22.
‘We went to MISCA to swim in the state pool and that’s what we did,? said Chock.
The MISCA meet only accepts swimmers with a top-60 time in their county. Clarkston’s best finish on the day was seventh place in the 200 medley relay courtesy of Vela, junior Kandice Keen, freshman Christine Seiple and Simpson.
Aside from providing a look at the pool the state finals are held in, Chock was pleased her young swimmers were exposed to another large meet before taking the starting blocks in the state finals.
Clarkston hosts the OAA league III swimming and diving meet Nov. 2-4. Swimming preliminaries begin on Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. Diving preliminaries are scheduled for Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.; the finals for both swimming and diving begin at 5:30 p.m on Nov. 4.
