The Orion Center officially re-opened its doors in a grand re-opening last week.
The center, which had been closed since a flood in February, houses Orion Township’s Community Programs Department, offers a variety of recreational and senior events, and is also available for rentals.
Several of these services had to be postponed, cancelled or relocated during the past five months as the building sustained extensive damage after a fire suppression line broke in the second floor ceiling, flooding both the first and second floors.
Orion Neighborhood Television (ONTV), who also calls the Orion Center home, was not affected by the flood and was able to remain open for business.
Members of Orion Township and the community celebrated the re-opening of the Orion Center with the Summer Sizzle, a free event that was open to all.
Attendees enjoyed hot dogs, chips and cake, while the children in attendance played carnival games, won prizes and got their faces painted.
Visitors could also tour the building and see the upgraded and repaired center.
“We are back and better than ever,” said Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett at the center’s ribbon cutting, which kicked off the event.
The Orion Center is located at 1335 Joslyn Road. More information can be found at oriontownship.org regarding the various recreational and senior services/events held there.
