While walking through the hallways at Grosse Pointe North High School last April, Oxford High School senior Sarah Tomaka got an idea.
Her idea was to create a patriotic showcase honoring OHS alumni who are serving, or have served, in the armed forces in the halls of her very own school.
Tomaka plans to decorate the showcase in red white and blue and will place photos of servicepersons with their information under the phrase ‘Oxford High School Alumni…In Service to Our Country.?
The only problem is that Tomaka needs at least one alumni to get started.
So far, she has none.
To feature a soldier in the showcase, Tomaka needs the persons name and rank, OHS graduating year, education, where they’re stationed, e-mail address (if desired), and a 3×2 photo of the soldier in uniform.
The 16-year-old feels it’s important to create the patriotic showcase as a ‘small thank you for preserving our freedom.?
‘I know some people don’t agree with the war and they don’t like the soldiers (in Iraq), but it’s their duty,? she said. ‘I think they’re the bravest people ever.?
Someday, Tomaka’s photo may even grace the showcase, as she’s thinking about joining the U.S. Naval Academy.
If you know of any alumni who’ve served in the armed forces are are currently serving, please send all photos and information to Oxford High School, c/o Patriotic Showcase 745 N. Oxford Rd., Oxford, MI 48371.
