An Oxford family in need had a merrier Christmas last weekend after members of the student council at Lakeville Elementary collected items to brighten their spirits.
Student Council leaders Robert Murray and Krista Faison sent letters home to parents asking for new or gently used items, like toys and clothes.
The outpouring of compassion filled four huge boxes with the toys, clothes, toiletries, gas cards and 14 phone cards, each containing 100 minutes.
‘We collected pants, shirts, dolls and toys,? said council member Alana Whins. ‘The parents know, but the kids didn’t. So this will be a little surprise.?
The items were wrapped in colorful paper and taken to the family Dec. 19.
Whins said it was important for them to do this because ‘it was helping another family that really needed it.?
Way to go, kids!
