Still no hydrant maintenance agreement

A committee made up of both village and township officials will try to figure out a way to resolve a problem with a proposed hydrant maintenance agreement.
Village of Lake Orion officials have been trying to collect fire hydrant maintenance fees past due to the village.
At $15 per hydrant for four years, it’s estimated the township owes the village almost $15,000.
This past July, Orion Township Fire Chief Jeff Key didn’t want to pay the village any money without a formal agreement.
An agreement was OK’d by the village council in September and forwarded to Key. He objected to making any retroactive payments that predated the agreement and redrafted the village’s proposed agreement.
‘Key’s view is not very professional,? councilman Ken Van Portfliet said at the Oct. 24 council meeting.
Township trustees on Oct. 17 were reluctant to take any action on Key’s redrafted agreement. They decided to form a committee with village representatives to come up with an agreement that both village and township officials would be happy with.
‘This is a way of moving forward,? LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said.
