Malcolm Cameron, 72, of Lake Orion, was arraigned April 21 on attempted murder charges, after Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies said he shot his stepson in the leg.
The shooting took place outside Cameron’s High Pointe home in Orion Township on the evening of April 19. According to the OCSD, he shot his 43-year-old stepson in the leg, and then barricaded himself in the home.
The stepson also lives in the home, along with his mother, Cameron’s wife. She was able to flee the home and call for help.
The OCSD called in a Special Response Team, and Cameron eventually left the home on his own, and was unarmed. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard came to the scene, as well as OCSD Lieutenant Bruce Naile, commander of the Orion Substation.
‘The SRT was able to talk him out of the house,? said OCSD Undersheriff Mike McCabe.
Cameron was taken into custody without incident, and lodged at Oakland County Jail.
He was charged with assault with intent to murder (two counts), and use of a felony firearm.
The stepson was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The shotgun was recovered outside the home, but it was unknown if Cameron had another weapon inside the house.
Cameron’s preliminary exam is set for May 1, and his bond is $500,000.
