Brandon’s varsity girls basketball team was hitting on all cylinders in their Sept. 6 game against neighboring Goodrich.
The end result was a 51-41 win for the host Blackhawks, improving their season mark to 2-1. Goodrich fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The Blackhawks bounced back from a loss five days earlier, when they dropped a 33-20 contest against visiting Rochester Adams.
After a tight first period, the Blackhawks took control of the game in the second, outscoring the Martians 18-11 in that period. Brandon also outscored Goodrich 14-8 in the third.
Junior Savannah Stedman had a big game for the Blackhawks, scoring 20 points, pulling down 12 rebounds, and blocking eight Goodrich shots.
Senior Brooke Schaefer had six points and a career-high 14 rebounds, while senior Jessica Liebner added six points and eight rebounds.
Brandon coach Bryan Ray said Blackhawk guards Mikki Nuccio and Mariah Andre stepped up and kept the Brandon offense in sync.
‘They handled the Goodrich press, and did a good job distributing and taking care of the basketball,? he said.
Amy Ramiller had 15 points in the loss for the Martians.
