Squid!

It was a sensory experience.
Waldon middle schools saw, touched, smelled and even tasted their final Directed Academic Instruction (DAI) project: squid.
Through DAI, a quarterly class, students dissected grasshoppers and loligo squid specimens.
For the grand finale, Adam Quidort, of Lake Orion’s Kruse and Muer restaurant, brought in fried calamari for students to sample. The restaurant donated everything, including chefs hats for students.
‘You can learn from a textbook, but we really wanted the kids to have the hands-on experience so they can have a more concrete experience,? said DAI teacher Jennifer Smith. ‘Anything that we can do to make education more exciting is a boon.?
So what did students think of eating squid?
‘It tasted like burned chicken to me,? said Shelby Miller, adding it had the texture of French fries.
‘The thought was nice, though,? she said of Quidort’s visit.
Anna Leonard had another opinion of the calamari.
‘I really liked it,? she said. ‘I thought it would taste really bad, but it tasted like chicken.?
