With more than 20 years of dance experience, Wendy Harris knows the difference a floor can make.
“Dancing on concrete floors, tiles with no give, and the shin splints and leg pain that comes with them ? I know what safe flooring is,” said Harris, owner of Spotlight Dance Center. “I never want my dancers or instructors to experience that. I want a safe environment for them.”
Adding a new 20-by-40-foot studio in the Winship center, 7183 N. Main Street just north of Clarkston, she made sure it’s well equipped with vinyl, sprung flooring for all types of dance.
The studio, Spotlight’s fourth, will be used for additional classes, she said.
“We have more faculty and staff,” Harris said. “Classes have been large. It’ll be nice to have more of them.”
Spotlight Dance also expanded its waiting room this past spring, adding cubbies and redesigning its office area.
“It makes it more inviting,” Harris said. “Clarkston is a nice central location. It’s easy to get to from the Clarkston area, Ortonville, Holly, Lake Orion, Waterford ? this is ideal. People love this location.”
Classes start back up, Sept. 8. An open house to see the facility, meet teachers, and learn about programs is 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28.
“Dance is one of the more affordable activities out there,” she said. “It’s popular with the little ones. They learn how to take turns, and social interaction.”
