The Varsity Volleyball team got off to a strong start in the Flint Metro League by sweeping Clio in a best of five match on Thursday, Sept. 10.
They beat the Mustangs 25-22 in game one, 26-24 in game two and 25-13 in game three to polish off the sweep.
‘We have been in the season now for little over a month and it was nice to finally start our quest for a league title,? said Coach Kristi McDevitt.
Senior Captain Marissa Manzella got the Wildcats going with nine kills, seven digs and was perfect on serve receive. Junior Beth Downs had seven kills, 12 digs and was four out of five in passing.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Wildcats participated in the Dragon Invitational at Lake Orion.
The Wildcats defeated Waterford Lady of the Lakes in pool play and split with both Ann Arbor Huron and Rochester to be seeded sixth out of 12 teams.
In the tournament, the Wildcats were able to get by South Lyon East before losing to Rochester.
‘We just couldn’t get anything going in the final game against Rochester,? said Coach McDevitt.
Manzella had 27 kills, two blocks and 30 digs to lead the Wildcats. Downs had 16 kills and Senior Chelsea Kessler had 47 digs.
The Wildcats record is now 7-6-8. They travel to Kearsley and Lapeer West this week before heading to the Grandville Invitational on Saturday.
