Spikers still #1 in Flint Metro

Last weekend, the Oxford Varsity volleyball team hosted their invitational where 16 teams battled it out to the finish.
In pool play, Oxford defeated Avondale, Troy, Bloomfield Hills Lahser, Almont and Elkton Pigeon Bay Port before losing to Birmingham Marian. The Wildcats emerged out of pool play second behind Marian to advance to the semi-finals against Milford.
Although Oxford defeated two Oakland County ranked teams (Troy/Lahser), they were no match for Milford’s strong offense and defense. Milford went on to win the invite by beating Notre Dame Prep in two final games.
‘It wasn’t a good way to end a successful day, but we just have to focus on the positive things that happened today,? coach Kristi McDevitt said.
Senior captain Karlyn Stroope finished with 60 kills and 7 blocks; junior captain Brittany Moncrieff had 45 kills, 68 digs and 6 blocks; senior captain Laura Brown paced the offense, tallying 77 kill assists and middle blockers Kelsey Giradot and Rachael Precour combined for 17 blocks at the net; senior captain and libero, Jacqui Sylva finished with 69 digs.
The Wildcats host Holly on Thursday for the first round of league tournament play at 6:45 p.m. Oxford is now 8-0 in the FML and 25-7-2 overall.
