The Volleyball season kicked off with the Varsity Wildcats Volleyball team facing some tough tests before beginning Oakland Activities Association play.
On Aug. 24, the girls took on Grand Blanc, Lake Orion and Notre Dame Prep. They defeated Grand Blanc before losing their next two games to Lake Orion and Notre Dame Prep by two points.
Even though they lost, Head Coach Kristi McDevitt was pleased with how the girls played.
‘It was a great night with some tough teams and it was really awesome that we were highly competitive with all three teams,? she said.
Junior Kate Bailey had 23 kills while senior Casey Novak had 21 kills and seniors Paige Felisky and Sarah Neibor combined for 51 kill assists.
The girls then traveled up to Northwood University to take part in the Northwood Invite, where they would lose in the semi-finals to former Flint Metro League for Lapeer East.
They previously beat East in pool play. They also defeated Ogemaw Heights, Mt. Pleasant and Manistee in pool play.
Bailey finished with 34 kills and Novak added 28 kills to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Senior Tammy Toteff added 23 kills while junior Lindsey Leppek and
senior Alex LaBarge each had 12 kills.
Oxford was led defensively by senior Allyson Winget, who had eight solo blocks, while juniors Maggie Rourke and Olivia Krause combined for 57 digs.
Oxford opens up OAA White Division play at Royal Oak on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
