The Oxford varsity girls volleyball team’s victory over Lapeer East Monday night sealed their position in the second round of the Flint Metro League tournament later this week.
After a slow start against the Eagles, the Wildcats regrouped to take the next three matches for the win.
Seniors Amanda Jolly and Kaity Fischer, and junior libero Jacqui Sylva combined for 43 digs that night.
Defensively, it was senior captain Kaitlin DuCharme hammering the ball for 10 kills. Although the girls won the game, Coach Kristi McDevitt said the team still has a lot to work on.
‘I can handle certain blunders that happen on the court as long as we rebound from them,? she said. ‘But it seems in some games when one bad thing happens a domino effect starts and we come crashing down on ourselves.?
The girls are now 27-11-3 overall and will travel to Brandon Thursday for revenge against the Blackhawks.
‘We have two losses from the first round and the girls are very adamant of showing the league, especially Brandon and Fenton, what they are capable of in the tournament,? McDevitt said.
‘They want nothing more than to defeat everyone from here on out to show they are tops.?
