Spikers go 2-2 at Dragon Invite

The Oxford Volleyball team has faced some tough competition leading up to the beginning of OAA White Division play this week.
On Saturday, Coach Kristi McDevitt’s squad competed in the annual Dragon Invitational at Lake Orion.
The Lady Wildcats went 2-1 in pool play in the tournament, defeating Birmingham Seaholm and Lutheran Northwest.
The team then lost a close match to Marian, which earned them a sixth place seed in the Gold bracket.
Oxford faced rival Lake Orion in the playoffs. The Dragon’s knocked the Wildcats out of the tournament with wins of 25-15 and 25-14.
Coach McDevitt said the loss was frustrating but she hopes her team learns from it and becomes stronger and more focused. .
‘We made it easy for them to knock us out of system and go on long point runs on us,? McDevitt said. ‘We have to play our best next time we meet them when it really matters, in league play.?
The top offensive performers for the Wildcats were left side hitters Darien Bandel with 26 kills and Alyssa Wysocki with 24 kills.
Defensively, Aviana Paese and Tarren Leszczynski combined for 98 digs.
Pacing the offense, setter Kennedy Orr had 43 kill assists.
Oxford’s overall record is 8-5 heading into league action this week at North Farmington.
