The Oxford varsity girls volleyball team’s Flint Metro League record improved to 2-0 after Monday’s win against Clio and Thursday’s victory over Holly.
At Clio, the girls swept the first three games with the help of junior Laura Brown’s 16 assists, senior captain Kaitlin DuCharme’s 15 kills and junior Kelsey Giradot’s seven kills.
‘I was very impressed with our comeback after a disappointing showing this weekend at the Marysville tournament at which we went 0-5,? Coach Kristi McDevitt said. ‘It was good to see the girls rebound and not let the weekend setback affect their quest for a league championship.?
The Spikers also beat Holly in three straight matches last Thursday in their first league match this season.
The Broncos lost 24-23, 25-28 and 25-17.
Junior Karlyn Stroope had five solo blocks and eight kills, while DuCharme had seven kills.
Senior defense specialists Amanda Jolly and Kaity Fischer helped Oxford along during some unusually long volleys.
‘Overall, I am very impressed in our play,? Coach Kristi McDevitt said. ‘Holly was a tough, scrappy opponent and putting them away in three games really shows me that the girls are coming out to prove they want to be a force in the league.?
The girls will take on Lapeer West at home on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
