Sperry’s pitching leads Wolves to two victories

Birmingham Groves could not touch Megan Sperry on May 10. Sperry had 17 strikeouts in 11 innings to help the Clarkston softball team defeat the Falcons 7-1 and 10-0.
Sperry allowed just two hits in the first game and none in four innings of work in the second game.
‘She’s comfortable throwing and has shown patience,? Clarkston Coach Don Peters said. ‘She doesn’t get rattled when she gets behind in the count. She knows she can still get the better out and usually does. She is also throwing harder, which is unusual, but it has helped.?
Clarkston’s offense supplied Sperry with plenty of run support. Katie Smith had three hits and two RBIs and Jessica Palace had two hits and one RBI in the first game.
In the second game, Sperry had four hits and scored two runs, Amber Giroux had four hits and four RBIs and Caitlin Morris had two hits and four RBIs.
‘We are hitting the ball well and running the bases well,? Peters said. ‘We made only two errors in the two games against Groves. Their enjoying the games and working hard to improve their fundamentals. I feel we are getting better everyday.?
The Wolves game with Utica on May 12 was cancelled due to weather conditions and their game against Troy on May 15 was called in the bottom of the first because of rain. The game had not been rescheduled at press time.
Clarkston’s next game is against Troy Athens on May 22. The regular season ends on May 23 when the Wolves travel to Fraser.
