SomethingThursday

Goodrich – A group of young adults are disproving the adage ‘you can’t go home again.?
James Allen, who just finished his third year studying computer science engineering at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, came up with the idea of getting college and high school students together through the week.
The ‘Something Thursday? group first met last week.
‘The idea came to me sitting in church one day,? said Allen.
‘With the church in Ann Arbor there’s a lot of things throughout the week we do getting together. It’s really nice to me to see people throughout the week, and encourage each other in our Christian lives. At home there’s a lot of sitting around.?
‘Many students come home to find it much harder to live by their faith without the support of a Christian organization and regular meetings,? said Something Thursday leader Megan Cottrell in a media statement.
The multi-denominational Something Thursday group meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Goodrich United Methodist Church on M-15 just south of Hegel Road.
Although there’s no set format, the group plans to start with worship, music, then snacks and conversation. Many Thursdays may end with ‘doing something afterward,? but leaders are playing it by ear, says Allen.
The group is open to anyone of college or high school age. Leaders plan to meet all summer, but there’s the possibility it will continue into the fall if there’s local leadership and interest, Allen said.
