Softballers take on rainy weekend

Senior Taylor Hasselbach capitalized as the team played Detroit Renaissance during the weekend’s Michigan Stars tournament.
She was 3-for-3 at bat, hit a triple and a home run in the 15-0 win over Renaissance.
She wasn’t the only one to hit a home run – Bailee Braunreuther, Sydney Hasselbach and Amanda Martin also hit one.
The day had a wet beginning as thunderstorms moved through the area. The games were delayed and shortened to an hour once they teams were able to hit the fields.
The girls also beat Imlay City, 10-5, and lost to Trenton, 4-2. The girls were tied with Trenton at the end of the game. Both teams
continued the game using the international tie breaker – beginning their next inning with a player on second base.
Trenton scored two runs to take the win.
‘It was a hard fought battle,? said Coach Don Peters.
The games were cancelled Sunday because of the rain.
‘We got three games in, more than most teams did,? said Peters, mentioning most played only two.
The girls also defeated West Bloomfield, 5-0 and 10-0 during the week.
Braunreuther was the winning pitcher during the first game and struck out eight batters. Sarah Altene stepped onto the mound for the second game and struck out four batters.
Taylor went 3-for-4 at bat during the second game and had two RBIs. Martin and Allie Reeves had two hits and one RBI. Liz Zezula had two runs.
The girls found their momentum during the fourth inning – scoring six runs before the Lady Lakers finally shut them down in the inning.
They found the pattern again in the last inning – scoring on three runs.
‘They did very good,? said Peters.
The girls hosted Carman-Ainsworth on Tuesday in a non-league battle and Birmingham Seaholm on Wednesday. The double-header begins at 4:30 p.m.
