The Oxford-Brandon Varsity co-ed ski teams finished their season last Thursday at the Division I regional race at Mt. Holly, sending one teammate to the Southeast Michigan Ski League (SEMSL) race yesterday.
The boys team finished 11th overall with 327 points, while the girls finished 13th with 424 points.
At Mt. Holly, the boys team finished 9th in the giant slalom with 155.5 points and 11th in the slalom with 171.5 out of 12 teams.
Standout performances came from Oxford captain Justin Hickmott and Oxford teammate Devon Clark. Hickmott raced in the SEMSL race yesterday at Pine Knob. His results weren’t readily available at press time.
The girls team finished 12th in the giant slalom with 217 points and 13th in the slalom with 207.
Other standout performances went to Oxford’s Caroline Kerbelis, who placed 38th out of 79 racers and Brandon’s Casey Drayton.
‘I thought the kids did an exceptional job,? said Coach Ed Haley. ‘We were up against some more experienced teams. Waterford United was pretty tough.?
Overall, Haley said the ski season has gone pretty well. ‘I thought the season could’ve been better,? he said.
During the divisional race earlier this season, two boys team members had to miss the meet due to illness and a cracked tailbone, which hurt the team’s score.
Haley said he is anxious to get the current JV team members onto to varsity next season.
‘Overall, though, I think they were focused, they were working hard and I thought it went well,? he said.
The boys team finished 2-3 and the girls 0-5.
