Students from Blanche Sims Elementary are doggone pros when it comes to participating in PAWS With a Cause.
‘This service project has been the inspiration for our March is Reading Month activities for 13 years,? said Blanche Sims Media Specialist Pauline Baldwin. ‘Blanche Sims has raised more money than any other school in the world for PAWS.?
According to Baldwin, this year, the students raised $4,445.88 that was split between two causes. Part of the money went to PAWS, while the other part went towards the community project of saving and restoring the Howarth School.
She said that the school sponsored many special events throughout March to inspire the kids to read and raise money for the two causes.
Blanche Sims hosted Family Reading Nights, Eat and READ with your Kid for parents and students during lunch, an author visit and even an appearance from Homer the Reading Dog from Oakview Middle School.
‘Our partnership with PAWS has helped our students to become aware of the special needs and capabilities of the disabled while encouraging them to practice their reading skills,? Baldwin said.
PAWS with a Cause trains and provides service and hearing dogs for people with special needs, she said.
