The world came to the Orion Township Library on March 1, when Sue Shuttleworth shared her adventures from a trip to Central and Eastern Europe.
It was the third time Shuttleworth visited the library, as she showed slides of historic landmarks and some of the countryside from a trip she took a few years ago.
‘I’ve been to about 50 countries now and I’ve been giving slide presentations for the last 15 years at various libraries in Oakland and Macomb Counties,? Shuttleworth said.
‘My goal in life is to see 100 countries,? she added.
On her three week trip Shuttleworth took about 3,000 photos, which she narrowed down quite a bit for the presentation.
Shuttleworth often provides historical information on the places she is showing in her slides.
She takes plenty of notes while on the trip and combines that with research from before and after.
‘When I come back home, I put it all together,? she said.
‘Auschwitz and Berkenow had the most impact,? Shuttleworth said of the trip. ‘Until you go there, you have no idea how it will affect you.?
‘I’m really glad I went to Poland,? she added, noting that it was not on the original itinerary for the trip.
Some of Shuttleworth’s other favorite destinations on the trip included Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Cesky Krumlov.
Shuttleworth lives in Royal Oak but works in Northern Oakland County.
She is planning a trip to India in November, so her fourth visit to the library might not be that far off.
